Difference Between Tummy Tucks, Liposuction, and CoolSculpting

The amount of plastic surgery options today can be very overwhelming for the average patient who is not familiar with all the new procedures available. In the case of removing unwanted fat, there are three main procedures that are offered: Tummy Tucks, Liposuction, and CoolSculpting. I’ll be going over the differences between each of these procedures and help decide which is best for your goals/expectations.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty is the most invasive out of the three procedures discussed in this article and can yield the most dramatic results. Due to the tummy tuck’s nature of ridding patients of extra skin, it is mostly focused on those who have lost a tremendous amount of weight, and women who have had children resulting in hanging excess skin. Also, during a tummy tuck it is possible to tighten the abdominal muscles to give the patient a stronger toned core. Recovery time is usually about two weeks before patients can return to their regular daily activities. If your situation is similar to those I have stated above, a tummy tuck may be right for you. Liposuction

While tummy tucks are suited only for the abdominal area, liposuction can remove fat deposits in the neck, chin, arms, buttocks, hips, thighs, abdomen, and even in the knees! Liposuction is less invasive than a tummy tuck and patients usually can return to their regular activities after a week of recovery. Results from liposuction are usually less dramatic than those of tummy tucks due to the less invasive nature of the procedure. If you have problem areas other than your abdomen, liposuction may be the perfect solution to your current problem.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a new revolutionary way to remove fat deposits in the body. It is completely non-invasive and works by freezing and eventually killing fat cells. This means that the skin and surrounding tissue of the problem area doesn’t get damaged or affected the same way it would in an invasive procedure. Patients only have to endure the problem area being a bit swollen. It is most commonly used for those who are in good shape other than a few common problem areas such as the midsection, flanks, hips, back, thighs, and beneath the chin. If this sounds like you, CoolSculpting would be a great fit!

Tummy Tuck Season

As summer is getting started and the heat is rising, many of us have been shedding our clothes to go swim and catch some sun at the beach, local lakes, and backyard pools. Although this is a fantastic time for many, there a few people who find themselves to be self-conscious of what they have underneath their shirts. This is one of the reasons why mommy makeover procedures increase by 100% in the summer months. In fact, 9 out of 10 tummy tucks are actually performed in the summer.

Reasons For A Tummy Tuck

There are multiple reasons why a tummy tuck may be right for you. If you’ve been hitting the gym and dieting right but there hasn’t been any progress, if you’ve recently lost a lot of weight and are embarrassed by your loose skin, or even if you just want to look good without starving yourself or sweating away the weight, an abdominoplasty may be a good choice. Needless to say, any surgical procedure such as this is very complex and comes with some risk, so it should always be chosen as a last resort. This procedure has come a long way since 10 years ago and the amount of complications have been reduced dramatically. With the new technology surgeons have, performing these surgeries has become a lot easier.

One thing you should make sure before seriously considering a tummy tuck is what you really want from it. in 65% of cases where the patient has been disappointed with the results, it was because they had unrealistic expectations of what they were going to get. For example, if you had a very thin frame and wanted to get a buttock implant, you shouldn’t expect to look like Kim Kardashian once the procedure is over. The main guideline cosmetic surgeons use is that they want to enhance what you already have, not give you something that will look out of place an unnatural.

How the Kardashians Have Shaped Cosmetic Culture

There is no doubt that the Kardashian family has the largest public reach out of any celebrity family in the world. With this reach and influence in society, the Kardashians have shaped society into believing that big butts were the epitome of beauty.Kim Kardashian Belfie

Even though the Kardashians have been in the spotlight since what seems like forever, they have only really begun to gain massive audiences within the last five years. With this large audience also gave them great influence. Looking at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons yearly reports it is shown that from 2014 to 2015, there was a 36% increase in the amount of buttock implant procedures as well as buttock lift procedures. In fact since the year 2000, the amount of buttock lift procedures has increased a whopping 252%. This just goes to show how much influence these celebrities have on our culture and how they shape what we see as beautiful.

Another example of this is Kylie Jenner’s lips. Ever since Kylie revealed that she had received temporary lip fillers, the amount of procedures has been on the rise. 2016 has proven to have the most lip augmentation surgeries than any other year before with an increase of 53% from the year 2000. Now 53% doesn’t seem to be too much, but when you look at the numbers that roughly translates to about 10,000 more people per year receiving this treatment, which is pretty significant! Kylie Jenner lip augmentation

I find it incredible how one family can have such a great influence on what a society considers beautiful. Cosmetic surgeons should definitely be looking to celebrity culture for the newest trends in the cosmetic industry. Let me know if you think this much power is good or bad and why in the comments below. I’ll be reading the comments and responding when I can.
